CNN Correspondent Brianna Keilar Will Serve as Gala Emcee

By EW!DC / Published: 12/08/2010

Everybody Wins! DC (EW!DC) is pleased to announce that CNN’s award-winning congressional correspondent Brianna Keilar will serve as the honorary emcee for our 16th Anniversary Gala on Tuesday, March 15, 2011.  Brianna Keilar is a long time supporter of EW!DC and has done a phenomenal job as the honorary emcee for our signature golf events.

EW!DC’s Executive Director Mary Salander expressed her enthusiasm regarding the announcement, saying “Brianna is a great addition to our gala lineup.  For the past four years she has been a fixture at our charity golf tournament as our emcee and a player.  Brianna has a genuine passion for education that comes across from the minute you begin speaking with her.  Through her past involvement with our organization, she facilitated CNN’s participation in our Power Lunch program and has allowed us to reach additional underserved students.”

Keilar commented on her involvement “Everybody Wins DC plays a vital role in fostering a fun environment where Washington, DC children can become better readers, the foundation for becoming successful later in life.  It is a privilege to be a part of a program that benefits the kids in our community.”

Recognizing her coverage of the $700 billion bank bailout in fall 2008, Keilar earned the prestigious National Press Foundation’s Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress. She has been responsible for covering the activities of both the U.S. House and Senate for CNN since December 2008.   Prior to covering Congress, Keilar served as a general assignment correspondent for the network, reporting on a wide-range of stories, including the 2007 Virginia Tech tragedy, where she was the first CNN correspondent on the ground.

Keilar joined the network as a correspondent for CNN Newsource, providing breaking news coverage and reports from the nation's capital for approximately 800 CNN Newsource partner stations. Prior to this position, she served as an anchor, reporter and producer for a CBS newscast that aired on mtvU, MTV's college network.

Keilar graduated Phi Beta Kappa with Bachelor's degrees in mass communications and psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.
