2012 Friedman Award

By EW!DC / Published: 12/12/2011

EW!DC proudly announces the 2012 Friedman Award competition, recognizing an outstanding Reading Mentor in the Power Lunch program.

The Friedman Award was established to honor the spirit and legacy of the late Mrs. Minnon Friedman, who read in the Power Lunch Program at Highland View Elementary School for 11 years.  Mrs. Friedman, who retired from mentoring at age 99, was the eldest Reading Mentor in EW!DC history.  Mrs. Friedman is also featured in our recruitment video.

We urgently need your “voice” to select the most deserving Reading Mentor!

Please take time to nominate two or three extraordinarily committed, long-time Reading Mentors for this prestigious annual award.  Reading Mentors are eligible only if they have participated in Power Lunch for at least three years.

The award will be presented at the Annual Gala on Tuesday, March 13, 2012.

Your school or organization may get the recognition of having the 2012 Friedman Award winner!

Please view the nomination guidelines.

"Seeing her become more confident and her love of reading increase has been such a joy to watch."
"It's mostly fun to read and watch her become such a confident reader and learn to love reading as much as I do. She is one of my best friends."
"When an adult helps a child, it tells that child how special they are. We send a message to the child- you are important to me- that is powerful and undeniable."
"It's a fantastic program, and I think the mentors get as much, if not more, than the student. You meet wonderful kids and have lots of fun."
"When I read, I learn and grow-- you know, like Jack and the Beanstalk kind of growing and that's really big!"
"I wish Everybody Wins was everyday!"
