Fun in the Sun: EW!DC's 16th Annual Scramble

By EW!DC / Published: 07/25/2012

On Monday, July 16, 2012, Everybody Wins! DC hosted its 16th Annual Scramble at Reston National Golf Course in Virginia.  Sixteen of the area’s leading businesses were represented at the event, with close to 100 participants in attendance.  ABC7/WJLA-TV’s Vice President of Sports, Tim Brant, was the honorary emcee of the event.

The tournament helped raise funds for EW!DC’s signature mentoring and literacy programs.  Participants enjoyed a round of golf on a beautiful sunny day and had the opportunity to compete in several contests, including the ever-so-popular Beat The Pro Contest.  For this particular competition, players were challenged by Tee Time Golf representative Ken Unzicker to hit the ball on the green.  If the players were successful, they received a free Tee Time Golf Pass, while the contestants who didn’t quite have the swing were given Chick-Fil-A coupons.

Following play, there was a buffet dinner as well as a post tournament awards ceremony.  Brant presented several awards, including the first, second, and third place foursome awards, which were claimed by General Dynamics, Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, and Principal Financial Group, respectively.

During the reception, EW!DC board member and Vedder Price, P.C. shareholder Amy Bess shared her thoughts about EW!DC’s impact on children’s literacy.  Bess, a long time mentor, informed the audience that “There are few things more rewarding than being a reading mentor and introducing the joy and magic of books to a young student.”

Everybody Wins! DC is very thankful to all of the businesses and corporations that helped make the 16th Annual Scramble a successful event.  The major corporate sponsors for the event were General Dynamics and JBG Companies.  The following groups also supported the Scramble: Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC; Convergent Wealth Advisors, LLC; CTIA – The Wireless Association; Fogan Law Group' ; Kaiser Permanente;  Kirkland & Ellis LLP; Mortgage Bankers Association; Sidley Austin LLP; SNR Denton; The Principal Financial Group; Towers Watson; TNS, Inc.; Vedder Price, P.C.; and Venable LLP.

Throughout the reception was a raffle drawing, sending many more people home as winners.  Some lucky winners took home tickets to a Nationals game, compliments of CTIA – The Wireless Association; a one-month membership to Clubgolf Performance Center, compliments of Clubgolf Performance Center; and one of the many other golf related goodies.

At the end of the day, EW!DC Executive Director, Mary Salander, commented, “Everybody Wins!
