Area Law Firms Come Together at Everybody Wins! DCís 9th Annual Lawyers for Literacy Trivia Challenge

By EW!DC / Published: 11/16/2015

On Thursday, November 19th, Everybody Wins! DC (EW! DC) hosted our Ninth Annual Lawyers for Literacy Trivia Challenge at Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Thirteen teams from many of the area’s leading law firms competed to win title of Litterae Magister (Master of Literacy). DC Quizzomaster, Neal Racioppo, asked a range of challenging questions on subjects ranging from history, sports, and pop culture, to business incorporation laws.

EW!DC’s Board Chairman, Mark Director, also a partner at Kirkland & Ellis, kicked off the evening by saying, “This event always brings fun, but vigorous, competition in support of a great cause. My colleagues in the [legal] field will understand that taking time to read with a child will be the best hour of your week.”

After four rounds of close competition, the team from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati, “Everybody Wins Except Us”, emerged victorious with 43 points. The “Trials and Trivialations” team from White & Case came in 2nd with 41 points, and the Kirkland & Ellis Environmental team rounded out the podium coming in 3rd with 40 points.

This event supports EW!DC’s signature mentoring and literacy program, Power Lunch. Many of the participating law firms support the program by encouraging their employees to volunteer as Power Lunch mentors. We are already looking forward to next year’s event!

Participating law firms: Alston & Bird LLP, Buckley Sandler LLP, DLA Piper LLP, Kirkland & Ellis LLP, Morrison & Foerester LLP, Sidley Austin LLP, Skadden Arps LLP, Troutman Sanders LLP, White & Case LLP, and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati LLP.

"Seeing her become more confident and her love of reading increase has been such a joy to watch."
"It's mostly fun to read and watch her become such a confident reader and learn to love reading as much as I do. She is one of my best friends."
"When an adult helps a child, it tells that child how special they are. We send a message to the child- you are important to me- that is powerful and undeniable."
"It's a fantastic program, and I think the mentors get as much, if not more, than the student. You meet wonderful kids and have lots of fun."
"When I read, I learn and grow-- you know, like Jack and the Beanstalk kind of growing and that's really big!"
"I wish Everybody Wins was everyday!"
