Background 

Everybody Wins DC (EWDC) is a non-profit organization devoted to improving lives through shared reading experiences. EWDC currently serves approximately 500 students in 11 public elementary schools across the Washington metropolitan area. EWDC’s signature program, Power Lunch, matches caring adults with students to read together for one hour a week during the student’s lunch and recess hour. 


Position Overview 

The Board of Directors of Everybody Wins DC is seeking the right candidate with vision and leadership and a track record of fundraising from individuals and corporations. The next leader has an opportunity to shape the organization for the next 25 years through creativity, relationships, and leadership skills. This position will take the over 600 dedicated volunteers, the strong relationships with DC Public Schools and a board and staff to the next level. You will be tasked to ensure the organization has the resources and funding to meet the mission of Improving Lives through Shared Reading. 


The Executive Director is the key management leader of Everybody Wins DC (EWDC). The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.


Position Duties 

Board Governance: Works with board in order to fulfill the organization mission. 

  • Responsible for leading EWDC in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors. 
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.


Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization. 

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of EWDC, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements to the finance committee, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization. 
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position. 
  • Responsible for fundraising and developing other resources necessary to support EWDC’s mission.


Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach. 

  • Responsible for implementation of EWDC’s programs that carry out the organization’s mission. 
  • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that EWDC can successfully fulfill its Mission into the future. 
  • Responsible for the enhancement of EWDC’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic, private organizations and funders.


Organization Operations. Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate. 

  • Responsible for the effective administration of EWDC’s operations. 
  • Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff. 
  • Responsible for signing all contracts, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.


Qualifications 

A bachelor’s degree/Master’s Degree preferred 

  • Transparent and high integrity leadership 
  • Five or more years senior nonprofit management experience 
  • Solid track record of fundraising, knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sector 
  • Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting 
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation 
  • Ability to convey a vision of EWDC’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers and donors 
  • Ability to provide leadership to board and staff which is inclusive and decisive 
  • Skills to collaborate with and motivate board members and other volunteers 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups 
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff 
  • Experience in public speaking

Volunteer and Partnership Manager

Position Overview 

EWDC seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Volunteer and Partnership Manager. The position reports directly to the Director of Programs. The primary functions of the position include: 

  • Managing a portfolio of EWDC program partnerships; 
  • Organizing direct service events for EWDC program partners; 
  • Assisting with the recruitment and retention of EWDC volunteers; and 
  • Providing programmatic and operational support for EWDC’s shared reading programs. 


The Volunteer and Partnership Manager is a full-time position with a competitive salary and is eligible for EWDC’s robust benefits package, including health insurance, 401(K) and generous time off. The position is based in the EWDC main office and requires travel throughout the District and Arlington on a regular basis. The position is also required to attend events, meetings, and trainings off-site as needed. Completion of a background check and fingerprinting is required. 


Position Duties 

Volunteers & Partnerships 

  • Coordinate and manage relationships with a portfolio of EWDC partner organizations, including targeted volunteer recruitment and retention efforts for the Power Lunch program 
  • Initiate and cultivate relationships with potential new partner organizations 
  • Manage and continuously update partner records in Salesforce 
  • Organize day of service events for partner organizations or potential partner organizations 
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, including outreach to potential partner organizations and mentors, development and delivery of recruitment materials, and conducting information sessions 
  • Organize events for EWDC volunteers 
  • Act as an ambassador for EWDC at events to help identify and develop new partnerships 
  • Coordinate EWDC’s efforts to ensure that all volunteers meet required polices for working with students, including obtaining necessary background clearance 
  • Assist in the development of mentor resource materials 
  • Work closely with the Director of Development on overlapping relationships with partner organizations 


Program & Operational Support 

  • Organize special shared reading events at schools with guest readers 
  • Assist in the collection and analysis of program data 
  • Support the development and maintenance of program materials, operating procedures, forms and manuals 
  • Support and assist in delivery of trainings for school-based staff 
  • Attend regular trainings, meetings, and EWDC events

  • Be a solid team player with demonstrated ability to work with flexibility and efficiency in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Detail oriented, the ability to multi-task, and proven project management skills 
  • Ability to anticipate challenges and opportunities and proactively and appropriately address them 
  • Strong computer skills; CRM/database experience a plus 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment and discretion. 
  • High standards, integrity and well organized 
  • Bachelor’s degree required
