Word of Mouth!
Tell the world about your wonderful mentoring experience with Power Lunch and the fact that we have students at all 11 of our schools just waiting for a Reading Mentor. Talk to co-workers, friends, neighbors, family, your social media networks – everyone! Our recruitment materials can help you make your case. But above all else: DIRECTLY ASK THEM TO MAKE THE COMMITMENT! Research indicates that this is key for successful recruiting.
And remember, while previously a person had to be affiliated with a Partner Organization to be a Reading Mentor, now any adult that wants to join Power Lunch is welcome to do so.
“Shadow a Mentor” Day
Sometimes the best way to recruit mentors is to let them see firsthand how much the Power Lunch program means to our students and our schools. During the month of January, feel free to bring a friend along to one of your Power Lunch reading sessions and help spread the joy of shared reading. Just let your school coordinator know you’ll be bringing a friend with you to your reading session! We’ve created an invite for you to share with friends.
Reach out to your networks and earn points for the Reading Mentor Recruitment Challenge with various social media actions:
Are you part of a neighborhood association? Belong to your college alumni association? Still involved with your sorority or fraternity? Talk to them about hosting a recruitment event to let their members learn more about how they can serve their community by reading with an elementary school student.
