Everybody Wins DC’s (EWDC) largest fundraising event of the year, the Everybody Wins DC 24th Annual Gala was held Wednesday, April 3 from 5:30 – 9PM at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
More than 400 guests joined in celebration 24 years of shared reading, our work, our honorees and to bid on more than 50 auction items! Live auction bidding turned competitive as guests wagered back and forth to take home a host of items such as a trip to Napa Valley, Lunch with Bob Woodward, NPR Tiny Desk concert tickets and more…
This year, EWDC recognized Peter Brusoe, (Bloomberg) as the organization’s 2019 Minnon Friedman-award recipient. The Friedman Award was established to honor the spirit and legacy of the late Mrs. Minnon Friedman who was a devoted and passionate Reading Mentor at Highland View Elementary School for 11 years. Mrs. Friedman, who at age 99 retired from mentoring, was the oldest Reading Mentor in EWDC history.
EWDC, also recognized its Power Players, Mike and Jill Sommers for their outstanding support of Everybody Wins DC. The Honorable Jill Sommers is a Director for Cboe Global Markets and a senior advisor with Patomak Global Partners. Jill is a former mentor and serves on the board for EWDC.
Mike Sommers is the President and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute (API). API has been a longstanding partner of EWDC, supporting us since our inception in 1995. This year, API will become a Power Lunch School sponsor at Tyler Elementary school. Both Mike and Jill have been consistent champions of EWDC programs.
The night was a success! Everybody Wins DC reached its gala goal thanks to our Principal, Vice Principal, Teacher, Coach, Mentor, and Student sponsor level donors and our individual donors. Because of you, we can ensure Power Lunch students like Eli, Lavonte, Seven and Autumn have the resources to succeed.
