Reading aloud with children develops critical cognitive skills while strengthening social and emotional development. That is why EWDC has always offered read-alouds as part of its core programming. And while StoryTime has taken many forms throughout EWDC’s history, it has always been about engaging a child’s mind through the power of stories.
StoryTimes allow participants to build their understanding of diverse life experiences through sharing texts which have impacted them personally and professionally. These volunteers or connect with small groups of students over their chosen text, and then then lead a guided discussion and/or brief, fun activity. Through these experiences, participants explore three key developmental themes: career awareness, social-emotional growth, and current events.
During SY21-22, we are excited to continue offering both virtual and in-person StoryTime opportunities via expanded partnerships with both schools and community partners!
