EWDC's StoryTime Program uses books in two exciting ways to engage children's minds and help them grow. Traditional StoryTimes follow a read-aloud format and feature one central text, with a volunteer reading to a group of students. These events support literacy development and reading comprehension, while also exposing students to new ideas, themes, and opportunities based on the selected material.
StoryTime's newest activity - Book Talks - give children a chance to hear from volunteers about the books or texts that inspired their personal and professional paths or address a theme that has been important in their lives. Launched in 2021, Book Talks are engaging and interactive sessions that show children how books can add value to their lives and help them reach their potential.
For School Year 2022-23, StoryTime events are being held in-person at schools and locations across the DC region. To learn more about how to become a StoryTime volunteer, or to see our schedule of upcoming events and sign up for a slot, click the link below.
